[ ♫ John Mayer - Who Says? ]
Ten years was a long time by any standard. More so when a twenty one year old boy thinks he can take on the world and protect a girl who was by all account's using him, for his name, his connections and the companionship that followed. The problem was the girl was bad news and the boy's mistake was choosing her over someone who cared much more. A woman he sat with often when the man she was with was off running around with the girl he ended up running off with.
Worst yet, they eloped when they ran off together. She was pregnant and despite all the evidence against it, he believed the baby was his. It was only a year or two of misery before her father put him out. His music was getting no where and the girl had already admitted the girl wasn't his child but his boss's lover's brother's daughter. The divorce was paid for by her father, the man wasn't all that bad in truth he had helped Kia by putting him out. He had even bought the Les Paul back from a pawn shop and returned it to him with a ticket to America, to get him back to his country of origin.
The next six years he had been a mess, he had notebooks full of music in a beat up suitcase from the drunken years catching greyhounds and playing bars to make enough to keep going and keep drinking. Six years of his life gone in a drunken haze. It was towards the end of that six years when a chipper blonde, and an old man found his way into Kia's life. The washed up musician, spent a night in jail when he realized who the man was. Ray hadn't been smart bringing Blues to see the mess that Kia had become. Ray spoke to him between the bars while Blues posted his bail. The ex-wife had contacted Blues about child support from his dead beat son. Blues had no idea Kia was even alive much less had a child. That had pretty much been stopped the moment they saw the child and asked for a DNA test. The child had none of the Dullea blood, her father had given them the last known address he had for Kia. Which didn't work out but they looked as they toured together, Blues and Ray's concerts still selling out nearly every time they played.
Blues lived in London with his wife in London, Ray was married now to, but happy to finally have his brother in his life. Blues made his son more irate with him by forcing him into rehab, at least the two finally spoke as he explained he was only doing it to save Kia. Before he became like he had been when Kia was a boy. The curse Blues' blood had skipped Ray but, Kia was a drinker like his father. When he was finally out he was less angry at his father, but he felt utterly out of place in London. Kia was staying in a spare room in Ray's far to big house, it made him miss Interal, but he still didn't feel like he was worthy to call after all the shit he put her through and everything he had done to himself.
As luck would have it, he wouldn't have much of a choice.
Destiny decided his time of running was up.
A gala for the rich and wealthy was being held and Blues expected both of his sons to appear, neither of the Dullea's were expected to play, but a piano was set up anyway. The newest, returned to the family had the blue long ago washed out of his hair, it was recently cut but still shaggy, a little shorter than it had been in his early twenties, the natural dirty blond hair was swooped back, and he was dressed in a black on black suit, sunglasses over his eyes as he lingered around the walls. He felt out of place in a way he hadn't in years. The desire to go grab one of the drinks off the table rose but he was stronger than the urge, he was stronger than Blues, he just tapped his fingers against his forearm watching more people file in in their rich beautiful clothes.
